The Raleigh Orthodontist
When was the last time a visit to the orthodontist resulted in an encounter with three salt water aquariums, two 300 gallon tanks, and one 150 gallons, teeming with exotic and fascinating species of sea life?
The fact that the Raleigh orthodontist is a certified scuba diver may have something to do with it, but it's mostly for the relaxation and enjoyment of his young and fascinated patients. Welcome to a fun atmosphere where kids rule - or think they do. How about a doctor's office where kids can play all the latest video and skill games?
Then, there are the virtual vision glasses so they can watch the latest DVD's, or they can listen to pre-programmed music while their braces are being put on or adjusted. Kids can even bring their own music or listen to the tunes provided by Dr. Kent's music library.
The Raleigh orthodontist, Dr. Kent, received two Bachelor of Arts degrees and his doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he finished in the top 5 percent of his class. He then received his master's degree in Orthodontics from Washington University where he finished first in his class. Later, he worked in Greenville, N.C. with the past president of the pediatric dental association.
Dr. Kent is the father of a 18-year-old boy, Rob, who is also a former braces patient. Consequently, the Raleigh Orthodontist, Dr. Kent, is in touch with the impact and influence a smile can have on a young person's self-esteem. Living within five minutes of his office enables Dr. Kent to provide extra services to his patients preparing for surgery or those who may have emergencies at hours when other practices are unavailable due to logistics. As a boy, Dr. Kent wore braces and confides that he actually liked his orthodontist. He even went to lunch with him and, on occasion, went into the office to observe or "shadow" to better understand what orthodontists actually did at work. When offered a job there to handle "small projects," he jumped at the opportunity.
"I never thought about doing it for the money or the title. I just like working with my hands and improving appearances with a better smile, or removing someone's embarrassment or emotional pain," the doctor recalls. "Everyone's an individual, so we strive to individually correct things for their special needs. Their smile and boost in confidence are rewarding to us."
Most of the kids in and around North Raleigh have heard about the "de-band and de-bond monthly parties" where the Raleigh Orthodontist Dr. Kent and his staff celebrate the removing of their patients' braces. The patients celebrate as one would imagine - by eating all the goodies they weren't permitted to while wearing "all the hardware" nacho chips, cookies, cake. Oh, yes, they also take lots of pictures to commemorate the occasion. Of course, there are plenty of smiles!
They now have computers at every workstation for their staff, which Dr. Kent proudly calls "the most friendly and best team in Raleigh." The Raleigh Orthodontist staff currently consists of six assistants, two scheduling coordinators, a patient coordinator, and a financial coordinator.
If prospective patients have ever weighed the wisdom of braces to correct their bite, extend tooth and gum life for themselves or a loved one, they should consider the psychological benefits of putting their best face forward. There is never a second chance to make a first impression.
The "bottom line" as they say on Wall Street, "is that they pay dividends for a lifetime." And these days, there aren't many investments around that produce those kind of results.
